Hisashi Sawada is a physician-scientist whose research focuses on vascular biology, particularly aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection. After receiving his medical degree from Hyogo College of Medicine in 2008 and completing PhD training in vascular disease mechanisms in 2015, he pursued postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Alan Daugherty at the University of Kentucky. There, he investigated smooth muscle cell heterogeneity and experimental models of thoracic aortic diseases.

In 2023, he established his independent laboratory at the University of Kentucky with support from the American Heart Association Career Development Award, focusing on vascular remodeling and translational vascular biology. He has continued international collaborations and remains active in vascular research.

In 2026, he joined the University of Tsukuba through the EXPERT-J Program (JST), where he continues translational research on vascular regeneration and aortic disease.
